Who does not like cakes ?? I am like CRAZY for them. Can dig-in any time, any day 😀
I had these mini cakes in my mind since a long time as they can be made in small batches, perfect bite sizeFinally got a chance to bake these beauties on the Children’s Day – The best treat for the kiddos..
SWIRL – as the meaning says move in a twisting or spiraling pattern. The different colors form a pattern which gives an amazing look to the cakes.
  • 1 ½ cup – All purpose flour
  • 1 cup – Powdered sugar
  • 1 tsp – Baking powder
  • ½ tsp – salt
  • ½ cup – olive oil
  • 1 cup – warm water (little less)
  • 1 tbsp – vinegar
  • 1 tsp – vanilla essence
  • food or gel colors
  • Preheat the oven at 180c.
  • In a bowl, sift all purpose flour, sugar and salt. Mix well and keep aside.
  • In another bowl, mix oil, water and essence.
  • Now add the dry ingredients to the liquid and beat well.
  • In a small bowl, mix vinegar and baking soda. Add to the batter. Mix well.
  • Divide batter evenly between six bowls. Add enough of each color of food coloring to each bowl. Whisk, until desired color is achieved.
  • Spoon the batter equally one over the other till all the batter has been used.





  • Bake for 35 minutes or till done.
  • Insert a toothpick and check for doneness.
  • Let the cake cool on the wire rack.
Now using a cookie cutter, cut the cake in desired shape and assemble the mini cakes as desired. I’ve used buttercream frosting to frost the mini cakes. You can decorate your cakes as you wish to!!
You can also use the cake as it is without cutting into small cakes. Frost a big one fro your loved ones..
  • Baking time may vary.
  • Do not over mix the batter or the cake will be dense, will not rise well and will be sticky.
  • Add the vinegar-soda mixture as soon as it reacts.
